Lyn Alumno is a stylist, creative director, and the Fashion & Beauty Editor for Nylon Manila. Her styling studio has worked with Nike, Kiana V, MEGA Magazine, and (way) more. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of fashion’s past and present, from specific ‘90s runway looks and Y2K catalog ads to 2010’s streetwear brands. Her cyber-it-girl aesthetic transcends microtrends or labels, yet it’s instantly recognizable across her styling portfolio and personal fit pics. Luckily, Lyn had a few minutes to tell us what she’s been up to.
Name: Lyn Alumno
Age: 27 years old
Zodiac Sign: Libra
Where are you from, and where are you right now?
I’m from Manila, Philippines
What’s your first memory with streetwear?
My first memory of streetwear was probably growing up watching NBA in the 90s, especially the eclectic style of Dennis Rodman.
If you had to compress your personal style into one outfit, what would it be?
This is a hard question but it would probably be me in a leather mini skirt, a faux fur coat, Marc Jacobs Kiki boots, and Vivienne Westwood’s pearl choker.
You can only wear three shoes for the rest of your life — what are they?
OG Nike Uptempos, Jeffrey Campbell platform boots, SMFK knee high knife boots
Streetwear style icon: Dennis Rodman, Rihanna, Aleali May
Your last (or favorite) Instagram follow: I’m obsessed with Yoon of Ambush, Amina Muaddi and Ib Kamara’s Instagram
What’s your biggest creative or career milestone so far? What’s your biggest creative or career goal right now?
I can’t pinpoint a specific milestone ‘cause I tend to forget the wins as soon as I celebrate them, but I’m proud of my upcycling workshop with Nike back in May as well as styling a visual album at the height of the pandemic called Wildest Dreams by Nadine Lustre. Another W is being announced as the fashion editor of NYLON Magazine’s Manila franchise.
What’s your dream collaboration?
Call me a fool but I’d love to collaborate with Rihanna and Hayley Williams someday. Dream brands would be Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier, Balmain and Vivienne Westwood.
What are you currently working on?
I don’t wanna disclose it in fear of being jinxed but I do have some collaborations in the near future that I’ve been working on, specifically jewelry 😉
When do you feel the most empowered?
When I have a cool outfit on.
What needs to change about the current streetwear landscape, to make it more inclusive?
I believe there’s more room for female POC especially within minorities. There are so many underrated creatives that have brands built on sustainability and limited resources, but still have the same quality of output as much as these big brands.
What woman in streetwear/sneaker history would you like to see get her flowers?
All I could think about is Aleali May, Alexandra Hackett/Mini Swoosh and Laura Fama and Ashley Jones (Dimepiece)
