Tomboy 019: Alina Timo
Alina Timo is a New York City-based model. Her face has co-signed campaigns from Prada and Chanel to Sandy Liang, with a slew of if-you-know-you-know indie mags in between. Beyond her portfolio, Alina has exploded on social media over the past year — particularly TikTok, where her chatty fit checks and post-edible rants are the framework for an unbelievably cool-girl wardrobe. Using “model off-duty” as a descriptive term typically makes me retch, but there’s really no better way to describe the effortlessly chic, globally inspired, less-but-better looks that only amplify Alina’s ultra-real personality.
Luckily, Alina had a few minutes to speak on what she’s up to (and into) lately.
Name: Alina Timo
Age: 28
Zodiac Sign: Scorpio
Where are you from, and where are you right now?
I’ve been living in the states for the last 8 years. Currently in New York.
What do you do? (whatever that question means to you)
The hardest question! I do anything I find fun: modeling, styling, makeup, acting — but my main focus lately is being silly on social media
What’s your first memory with streetwear? How were you introduced to fashion?
Clothes, and the quality of clothes, were always a big topic between my mom and me. First memory with streetwear must be Japan in 2015, and living in Paris for a bit afterwards . Vintage stores are insane there!! And I learnt to always invest in good shoes and a bag (vintage or new).
If you had to compress your personal style into one outfit, what would it be?
Depends on my mood. Today I feel like wearing a loose brown linen suit and black sunglasses. Tomorrow who knows …
You can only wear three shoes for the rest of your life — what are they?
Ballet flats or moccasin, since I was small, always and forever
Good flat black boots that make a loud sound when walking
Nice loafers
Style icon: There are more style icons on the New York subway than on the internet
Favorite Instagram follow: Snoop Dogg
Three pieces of media that shaped your personal style:
Rihanna’s pink hair selfies
Young Julio Iglesias’ style
Tom Ford-Gucci era
What’s your biggest creative/career milestone so far? What’s your biggest creative/career goal right now?
I really want to be surrounded with music, in any way.
Dream collaboration?
Houseplant, Seth Rogen's weed and ceramic brand
What are you currently working on?
Trying to become a pro at makeup ! It’s so fun
When do you feel the most empowered?
At night, in bed, when I don’t have to leave my house
What needs to change in the current streetwear landscape, to make it more inclusive?
Trends gotta go. They take away personality.
